Georgia Tech Research Institute Outreach

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) collaborates with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Minority Institutions (MI) to increase research interactions. These connections have made an impact at the K-12, undergraduate, and graduate levels, resulting in multiple proposals to various agencies and several on-going projects. These efforts build the capacity of minority institutions to contribute to the research needs of our nation, and to build the capacity of Georgia Tech to more effectively contribute to the resolution of problems, which cross disciplinary and institutional boundaries.

  • Clark Atlanta University (CAU), Morgan State University and the City College of New York are collaborators with GTRI on the Army Research Laboratory's Collaborative Technology Alliance for Communications and Networks Consortium.
  • GTRI is a member of Team CAU's collaboration with the US Army Communications and Electronics Command located at Fort Monmouth. Team CAU members include CAU, Florida International University, and Tennessee State University (TSU).
  • Georgia Tech collaborated with Santa Ana Pueblo Indians and the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute on the Department of Commerce funded Pueblo Santa Ana telecommunications grant.
  • Alabama A&M University (AAMU) and TSU are members of Georgia Tech's Center for Emergency Response Technology, Instruction and Policy consortium.
  • From its inception, GTRI has mentored AAMU in the establishment of their research institute. Dr. Ed Reedy, Vice President of GTRI, is currently a member of the Alabama A&M University Research Institute advisory board.
  • GTRI collaborates with CAU on a multi-year plasma torch research project.
  • TSU and the University of Hawaii collaborated with GTRI on a Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative proposal with the Office of Naval Research.
  • TSU collaborated with GTRI on the Under Secretary of Defense and the Technical Support Working Group proposal.
